One of my all time favorite Chase credit cards is the Chase Southwest Rewards Visa Plus Card! I have had the personal Chase Southwest card six different times and thus have received the sign-up bonus six different times. The Chase Southwest Card is a great example of a card that you should cancel at the end of the first year in order to continue taking advantage of the sign-up bonus. Generally the best sign-up bonus they ever offer is 50,000 points and most recently it was at 40,000 points. Currently it is sitting at 60,000 points! Let’s take a closer look at the offer:
- Earn 60,000 Rapid Reward Points after spending $2,000 in the first three months of your account being open
- Earn 2 points per dollar spent on Southwest Airlines and 1 point on every other dollar spent
- Points don’t expire, no blackout dates, bags fly free, no change fees
- $69 annual fee NOT waived the first year
- 3,000 bonus points on your card member anniversary each year
Chase also offers the Chase Southwest Premier Card. Its offer is exactly the same except that the annual fee is $99, the anniversary bonus is 6,000 points, and there are NO foreign transaction fees. I recommend the Plus card unless you plan to use this card internationally.
Maybe 60,000 points sounds pretty good, but you’re new to points and not sure what kind of value that is. Let’s say you lived in my hometown of Oklahoma City and wanted to fly your family of four roundtrip to Orlando for a Disney Vacation:
In this example, you could fly your family of four roundtrip to Disneyworld for 59,308 points and $44.80 in booking fees and taxes. Now let’s take a look at what this would cost you without points:
As you can see the exact same flights would cost you $1,067.84! For $113.80 ($69 annual fee plus the $44.80 booking fee) you could book the exact same itinerary, thus making this sign-up bonus an approximate $950 value!
This is absolutely the very best credit card offer currently available! Mrs. RevDan and I have flown Southwest Airlines to Cancun, Aruba, Niagara Falls, and many other amazing destinations. All on points! If you and or your family have upcoming travel plans, I highly encourage you to check out the current offer from Chase!
As always, if you have any questions at all, don’t hesitate to contact me!
